I am a researcher interested in applying scientific knowledge to interdisciplinary engineering problems in speech, audio and vision and in turn using engineering approaches to drive scientific understanding. My doctoral research focused specifically on speech science and its applications to machine intelligence and more generally, understanding how brain-body systems work and reason with information. I obtained my M.S and Ph.D degrees at the University of Southern California where I worked with an amazing and interdisciplinary group of researchers to explore the cognitive and technological aspects of speech science. My principal advisor was Dr. Shrikanth Narayanan.

I am currently a Research Scientist in the R&D division at Educational Testing Services (ETS), where I work on dialog and multimodal systems research with applications to language learning and behavioral assessment. Our team was recently awarded the prestigious ETS Presidential Award for our work on multimodal dialog systems. Since September 2017, I also hold an Adjunct Assistant Professor appointment at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where I collaborate with Dr. John Houde and Dr. Srikantan Nagarajan on speech motor control modeling research.
